§58‑76‑30.  Officer liable for negligence in collecting debt.

When a claim is placed in thehands of any sheriff or coroner for collection, and he does not use duediligence in collecting the same, he shall be liable for the full amount of theclaim notwithstanding the debtor may have been at all times and is then able topay the amount thereof.
