§ 7A‑177.  Trainingcourse in duties of magistrate.

(a)        Within six monthsof taking the oath of office as a magistrate for the first time, a magistrateis required to attend and satisfactorily complete a course of basic training ofat least 40 hours in the civil and criminal duties of a magistrate. TheAdministrative Office of the Courts is authorized to contract with the Schoolof Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or with anyother qualified educational organization to conduct this training, and toreimburse magistrates for travel and subsistence expenses incurred in takingsuch training.

(b)        In addition to thebasic training course required under subsection (a) of this section, continuingeducation courses shall be provided at such times and locations as necessary toassure that they are conveniently available to all magistrates withoutextensive travel to other parts of the State.  (1975, c. 956, s. 11; 1983 (Reg.
