§83A‑7.  Qualifications and examination requirements.

(a)        Licensing byExamination. – Any individual who is at least 18 years of age and of good moralcharacter may make written application for examination by completion of a formprescribed by the Board accompanied by the required application fee. Subject toqualification requirements of this section, the applicant shall be entitled toan examination to determine his qualifications for licensure.

(1)        The qualificationrequirements for registration as a duly licensed architect shall be:

a.         Professionaleducation and at least three years practical training and experience asspecified by rules of the Board.

b.         The successfulcompletion of a licensure examination in architecture as specified by the rulesof the Board.

(2)        The Board shalladopt rules to set requirements for professional education, practical trainingand experience, and examination which must be met by applicants for licensureand which may be based on the published guidelines of nationally recognizedcouncils or agencies for the accreditation, examination, and licensing for thearchitectural profession.

(b)        Licensing byReciprocity. – Any individual holding a current license for the practice ofarchitecture from another state or territory, and holding a certificate ofqualification issued by the National Council of Architectural RegistrationBoards, may upon application and within the discretion of the Board be licensedwithout written examination. The Board may waive the requirement for National Councilregistration if the qualifications, examination and licensing requirements ofthe state in which the applicant is licensed are substantially equivalent tothose of this State and the applicant otherwise meets the requirements of thisChapter.
