§ 90D‑2.  Declaration ofpurpose.

The practice of manual or oralinterpreting and transliterating services affects the public health, safety,and welfare, and therefore the licensure of these practices is necessary toensure minimum standards of competency and to provide the public with safe andaccurate manual or oral interpreting or transliterating services. It is thepurpose of this Chapter to provide for the regulation of persons offeringmanual or oral interpreting or transliterating services to individuals who aredeaf, hard‑of‑hearing, or dependent on the use of manual modes ofcommunication in this State. (2002‑182, s. 1; 2003‑56, s. 3.)
