Chapter 68.--ROADS AND BRIDGES
PART II.--BRIDGES
Article 11.--GENERAL PROVISIONS

      68-1111.   Approval of plans by county engineer or state engineer.All plans for the construction or repair of highway bridges andculverts, the estimated cost of which does not exceed the sum of $200,000,shall be submitted to the county engineerfor approval. If the estimated cost thereof exceeds thesum of $200,000,such plans and estimates,before final adoption, shall be submitted to the statetransportation engineer for approval.

      The state transportation engineer shall examine and returnthe same with the engineer's approval or with suchchanges and modificationsas the engineer may require noted thereon, with the reasonstherefor. The plans shall be changed to conform to the requirements ofthe state transportation engineer, and shall be adopted by theboard of county commissioners and all work done in accordance therewith.No contract shall be legal and binding on the county unless the plansand estimates of cost have been approved by the county engineer or thestate transportation engineer, as provided in this section. All estimatesfor bridges and culverts shallbe made separatelyfrom the dirt approaches thereto. On low-waterbridges with roadways 18 feet or more in width no guardrailshall be required unless the county board deems it necessary.
