Page 1 of 1 197.057 Course for inmates on prevention of pediatric abusive head trauma. (1) The department shall make available a one and one-half (1.5) hour course for inmates that addresses the prevention of pediatric abusive head trauma, as defined <br>in KRS 620.020. In addition to presenting the consequences of vigorously shaking <br>an infant or young child, this course shall suggest methods of calming crying <br>infants, techniques for caregivers to use to calm themselves when confronted with <br>an infant that is crying inconsolably, and discuss selecting appropriate care <br>providers for infant children. Training in recognizing pediatric abusive head trauma <br>may be designed in collaboration with organizations and agencies that specialize in <br>the prevention and recognition of pediatric abusive head trauma approved by the <br>secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. (2) The department shall encourage local jails to provide a course similar to that described in subsection (1) of this section. Effective: July 15, 2010 <br>History: Created 2010 Ky.
