Vietnam veterans, special license plates--application procedure--fees,restrictions.

301.457. Any person who served in the Vietnam Conflict and eithercurrently serves in any branch of the United States armed forces or washonorably discharged from such service may apply for special motor vehiclelicense plates, either solely or jointly, for issuance either for anypassenger motor vehicle subject to the registration fees provided insection 301.055 or for a nonlocal property-carrying commercial motorvehicle licensed for a gross weight of nine thousand one pounds to twelvethousand pounds as provided in section 301.057, whether such vehicle isowned solely or jointly. Any such person shall make application for thespecial license plates on a form provided by the director of revenue andfurnish such proof of service in the Vietnam Conflict and status ascurrently serving in a branch of the armed forces of the United States oras an honorably discharged veteran as the director may require. Uponpresentation of the proof of eligibility and annual payment of the feerequired for personalized license plates prescribed by section 301.144, andother fees and documents which may be required by law, the director shallthen issue license plates bearing letters or numbers or a combinationthereof as determined by the advisory committee established in section301.129, with the words "VIETNAM VETERAN" in place of the words "SHOW-MESTATE". Such plates shall also bear an image of the Vietnam service medal.The plates shall be clearly visible at night and shall be aestheticallyattractive, as prescribed by section 301.130. There shall be no limit onthe number of license plates any person qualified under this section mayobtain so long as each set of license plates issued under this section isissued for vehicles owned solely or jointly by such person. License platesissued pursuant to this section shall not be transferable to any otherperson except that any registered co-owner of the motor vehicle may operatethe motor vehicle for the duration of the year licensed in the event of thedeath of the qualified person.
