Current inspection required for registration or transfer,exception--inspection valid, how long.

307.355. 1. No state registration license to operate the type ofvehicle required to be inspected by section 307.350 may be transferred orissued during a biennial registration year in which the vehicle is requiredto be inspected unless the application is accompanied by a certificate ofinspection and approval issued no more than sixty days prior to the date ofapplication, or in the case of school buses, which will be required to beinspected annually as provided in section 307.375, except:

(1) The director of revenue may transfer or issue a stateregistration license to the type of vehicle required to be inspected bysection 307.350 without a certificate of inspection and approvalaccompanying the application if the director has satisfactory evidence thatthe vehicle was not in the state of Missouri at any time during the sixtydays prior to the date of application; however, the owner of every suchvehicle must submit the vehicle for inspection and obtain a certificate ofinspection and approval within ten days after the vehicle is first returnedto the state of Missouri;

(2) The director of revenue shall renew a vehicle's registrationlicense without a certificate of inspection and approval accompanying theapplication if satisfactory documentary evidence is presented at the timeof application that the license being renewed was properly transferredwithin a six-month period prior to the expiration of the license beingrenewed or that the vehicle for which the registration is being issued wasissued a registration for a period of less than one year for theregistration period just expiring.

2. If due to interstate operation a commercial motor vehicle asdefined in section 301.010, RSMo, or a trailer of the type required to beinspected is required to obtain full fee registration in this and any otherstate during the same calendar year, no Missouri certificate of inspectionand approval is required if the vehicle bears evidence that a current validinspection sticker or decal was issued by such other state in which thevehicle is registered; provided that the sticker or decal issued by suchother state is valid for the registration period in this state.

3. After a commercial motor vehicle as defined in section 301.010,RSMo, has been registered for the current year, no certificate ofinspection and approval is required when a local commercial motor vehiclelicense is changed to a beyond-local commercial motor vehicle license orwhen the licensed gross weight is changed during the licensed period.
