The officers and employees ofthe Division, or any successor agency, and the area director or any officeror employee of an area authority designated by the area board, or any officeror employee of any area facility designated by the area board, may, if they area disinterested public agent as defined by G.S. 35A‑1202(4), serve asguardians for adults adjudicated incompetent under the provisions of SubchapterI of Chapter 35A of the General Statutes, and they shall so act if ordered toserve in that capacity by the clerk of superior court having jurisdiction of aproceeding brought under that Subchapter.
