A Retirement System is herebyestablished and placed under the management of the Board of Trustees for thepurpose of providing retirement allowances and other benefits under theprovisions of this Article for justices and judges, district attorneys, publicdefenders, the Director of Indigent Defense Services, and clerks of superiorcourt of the General Court of Justice of North Carolina, and their survivors.The Retirement System so created shall be established as of January 1, 1974.
The Retirement System shallhave the power and privileges of a corporation and shall be known as the"Consolidated Judicial Retirement System of North Carolina," and bysuch name all of its business shall be transacted.
