§ 14‑208.14.  Statewideregistry; Division of Criminal Statistics designated custodian of statewideregistry.

(a)        The Division ofCriminal Statistics shall compile and keep current a central statewide sexoffender registry. The Division is the State agency designated as the custodianof the statewide registry. As custodian the Division has the followingresponsibilities:

(1)        To receive from thesheriff or any other law enforcement agency or penal institution all sexoffender registrations, changes of address, changes of academic or educationalemployment status, and prerelease notifications required under this Article orunder federal law. The Division shall also receive notices of any violation ofthis Article, including a failure to register or a failure to report a changeof address.

(2)        To provide all need‑to‑knowlaw enforcement agencies (local, State, campus, federal, and those located inother states) immediately upon receipt by the Division of any of the following:registration information, a prerelease notification, a change of address, achange of academic or educational employment status, or notice of a violationof this Article.

(2a)      To notify theappropriate law enforcement unit at an institution of higher education as soonas possible upon receipt by the Division of relevant information based onregistration information or notice of a change of academic or educationalemployment status. If an institution of higher education does not have a lawenforcement unit, then the Division shall provide the information to the locallaw enforcement agency that has jurisdiction for the campus.

(3)        To coordinateefforts among law enforcement agencies and penal institutions to ensure thatthe registration information, changes of address, prerelease notifications, andnotices of failure to register or to report a change of address are conveyed inan appropriate and timely manner.

(4)        To provide publicaccess to the statewide registry in accordance with this Article.

(5)        To maintain a systemallowing an entity to access a list of online identifiers of persons in thecentral sex offender registry.

(b)        The statewideregistry shall include the following:

(1)        Registrationinformation obtained by a sheriff or penal institution under this Article orfrom any other local or State law enforcement agency.

(2)        Registrationinformation received from a state or local law enforcement agency or penalinstitution in another state.

(3)        Registrationinformation received from a federal law enforcement agency or penalinstitution.  (1997‑516,s. 1; 2002‑147, s. 21; 2008‑220, s. 8.)
