In order to facilitate regularimprovement in the structure, administration, and programs of the Department ofCorrection, there shall be established within the Department organizationalunits responsible for statistics, research, and planning. The Department ofCorrection may cooperate with and seek the cooperation of public and privateagencies, institutions, officials, and individuals in the development andconduct of programs to compile and analyze statistics and to conduct researchin criminology and correction.
