§ 158‑31.  Purpose.

The purpose of this Article is to allow the following counties, whichhave the potential to derive direct economic benefits from the North CarolinaGlobal TransPark, to create a special economic development district, to beknown as North Carolina's Eastern Region: Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Edgecombe,Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Nash, Onslow, Pamlico, Pitt, Wayne, and Wilson.

The purpose of North Carolina's Eastern Region is to promote thedevelopment of the North Carolina Global TransPark and to promote and encourageeconomic development within the territorial jurisdiction of the Region byfostering or sponsoring development projects to provide land, buildings,facilities, programs, information and data systems, and infrastructurerequirements for business and industry in the North Carolina Global TransParkoutside of the Global TransPark Complex, and elsewhere in the Region.
