§ 15B‑4.  Award ofcompensation.

(a)        Subject to thelimitations in G.S. 15B‑22, compensation for criminally injurious conductshall be awarded to a claimant if substantial evidence establishes that therequirements for an award have been met. Compensation shall only be paid foreconomic loss and not for noneconomic detriment. The Commission shall followthe rules of liability applicable to civil tort law in North Carolina.

(b)        Compensation shallonly be awarded for criminally injurious conduct that occurs or is attempted inthis State except that criminally injurious conduct that occurs or is attemptedagainst a resident of this State while in another state which does not have avictims compensation program of any type may be a basis of compensation.
