§ 20‑167.1. Transportation of spent nuclear fuel.

(a)        No person, firm orcorporation shall transport upon the highways of this State any spent nuclearfuel unless such person, firm, or corporation notifies the State Highway Patrolin advance of transporting the spent nuclear fuel.

(b)        The provisions ofthis section shall apply whether or not the fuel is for delivery in NorthCarolina and whether or not the shipment originated in North Carolina.

(c)        The RadiationProtection Commission is authorized to adopt, promulgate, amend, and repealrules and regulations necessary to implement the provisions of this section.

(d)        Any person, firm orcorporation violating any provision of this section is guilty of a Class 3misdemeanor and shall be punished only by a fine of not less than five hundreddollars ($500.00), and each unauthorized shipment shall constitute a separateoffense.
