§ 20‑279.8.  Applicationto nonresidents, unlicensed drivers, unregistered motor vehicles and accidentsin other states.

(a)        In case theoperator or the owner of a motor vehicle involved in an accident within thisState has no license, or is a nonresident, he shall not be allowed a licenseuntil he has complied with the requirements of this Article to the same extentthat it would be necessary if, at the time of the accident, he had held alicense.

(b)        When anonresident's operating privilege is suspended pursuant to G.S. 20‑279.5or 20‑279.7, the Commissioner shall transmit a certified copy of therecord of such action to the official in charge  of the issuance of licenses inthe state in which such nonresident resides, if the law of such other stateprovides for action in relation thereto similar to that provided for insubsection (c) of this section.

(c)        Upon receipt ofsuch certification that the operating privilege of a resident of this State hasbeen suspended or revoked in any such other state pursuant to a law providingfor its suspension or revocation for failure to deposit security for thepayment of judgments arising out of a motor vehicle accident, undercircumstances which would require the Commissioner to suspend a nonresident'soperating privilege had the accident occurred in this State the Commissionershall suspend the license of such resident. Such suspension shall continueuntil such resident furnishes evidence of his compliance with the law of suchother state relating to the deposit of such security. (1953,c. 1300, s. 8.)
