It is unlawful for any personknowingly to advertise for sale, to sell, to use, or to install or to haveinstalled, any device which causes an odometer to register any mileage otherthan the true mileage driven. For the purposes of this section, the truemileage driven is that mileage driven by the vehicle as registered by theodometer within the manufacturer's designed tolerance. (1973,c. 679, s. 1.)
