Insurers issuing the standardfire insurance policy pursuant to G.S. 58‑44‑16, or any permissiblevariation of that policy, and policies issued pursuant to G.S. 58‑44‑20and Article 36 of this Chapter, are authorized to affix to the policy orinclude in the policy a written statement that the policy does not cover lossor damage caused by nuclear reaction, nuclear radiation, or radioactivecontamination, all whether directly or indirectly resulting from an insuredperil under the policy; provided, however, that nothing in this section shallbe construed to prohibit the attachment to any such policy of an endorsement orendorsements specifically assuming coverage for loss or damage caused bynuclear reaction, nuclear radiation, or radioactive contamination.
