§ 90‑270.46. Policy and purpose.

Marriage and family therapy in North Carolina is a professionalpractice that affects the public safety and welfare and requires appropriatelicensure and control in the public interest.

It is the purpose of this Article to establish a licensure agency, astructure, and procedures that will (i) ensure that the public has a means ofprotecting itself from the practice of marriage and family therapy byunprofessional, unauthorized, and unqualified individuals, and (ii) protect thepublic from unprofessional, improper, unauthorized and unqualified use ofcertain titles by persons who practice marriage and family therapy. ThisArticle shall be liberally construed to carry out these policies and purposes. (1979, c. 697, s. 1; 1985, c. 223, s. 1; 1993 (Reg.Sess., 1994), c. 564, s. 2.)
