97.640 Officers and employees of commissions. (1) A commission in a city of the first class shall annually elect a chairman from its members, to serve for the term of one (1) year. The commission may elect a <br>secretary and treasurer, not a member of the commission, who shall hold the <br>combined office at the pleasure of the commission, and may receive a salary to be <br>fixed and paid by the commission, not exceeding &#36;2,500 per annum. The <br>commission may select and fix the compensation of such officers or employees as it <br>deems necessary to properly carry on the work of the commission, to serve at the <br>pleasure of the commission. The compensation of all officers and employees of the <br>commission employed in the operation or maintenance of the memorial shall <br>constitute maintenance expenses and shall be paid as such. (2) A commission in a city of the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth classes shall annually elect a chairman from its members, to serve for the term of one (1) year. <br>The commission may elect a secretary and treasurer, not a member of the <br>commission, who shall hold the combined office at the pleasure of the commission, <br>and may receive a salary to be determined by the commission.
