Part2. Board of Correction.

§ 143B‑265.  Board of Correction – duties andresponsibilities; members; selection; compensation; meetings; quorum; services.

(a)        The Board of Correction shall consider and advise theSecretary of Correction upon any matter that the Secretary may refer to it. TheBoard shall assist the Secretary of Correction in the development of majorprograms and recommend priorities for the programs within the Department.

The Board of Correction shall have such other responsibilities and shallperform such other duties as may be specifically given to it by the Secretaryof Correction.

(b)        The Board of Correction shall consist of one voting memberfrom each of the 13 congressional districts, appointed by the Governor to serveat his pleasure. One member shall be a psychiatrist or a psychologist, one anattorney with experience in the criminal courts, one a judge in the GeneralCourt of Justice and nine members appointed at large. The Secretary ofCorrection shall be an additional nonvoting member and chairman ex officio. Theterms of office of the nine members presently serving on the Board shallcontinue, but any vacancy occurring on or after July 1, 1983, shall be filledby the Governor in compliance with the requirement of membership from thevarious congressional districts.

(c)        Members of the Board shall receive per diem and necessarytravel and subsistence expenses in accordance with the provisions of G.S. 138‑5.

The Board of Correction shall meet at least quarterly and may holdspecial meetings at any time and place within the State at the call of itschairman.

A majority of the Board shall constitute a quorum for the transactionof business.
