§ 87‑43.3. Classification of licenses.

An electrical contractinglicense shall be issued in one of the following classifications: Limited, underwhich a licensee shall be permitted to engage in a single electricalcontracting project of a value, as established by the Board, not in excess ofone hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) and on which the equipment orinstallation in the contract is rated at not more than 600 volts; Intermediate,under which a licensee shall be permitted to engage in a single electricalcontracting project of a value, as established by the Board, not in excess oftwo hundred thousand dollars ($200,000); Unlimited, under which a licenseeshall be permitted to engage in any electrical contracting project regardlessof value; and such other special Restricted classifications as the Board mayestablish from time to time to provide, (i) for the licensing of persons,partnerships, firms or corporations wishing to engage in special restrictedelectrical contracting, under which license a licensee shall be permitted toengage only in a specific phase of electrical contracting of a special, limitednature, and (ii) for the licensing of persons, partnerships, firms orcorporations wishing to engage in electrical contracting work as an incidentalpart of their primary business, which is a lawful business other thanelectrical contracting, under which license a licensee shall be permitted toengage only in a specific phase of electrical contracting of a special, limitednature directly in connection with said primary business. The Board mayestablish appropriate standards for each classification, such standards not tobe inconsistent with the provisions of G.S. 87‑42. The Board may, byrule, modify the project value limitations up to the maximum amounts set forthin this section for limited and intermediate licenses no more than once everythree years based upon an increase or decrease in the project cost index forelectrical projects in this State.
