23-284. Laundry workers; exceptions; posting
notice of hours of labor; arrangement of laundry rooms; violation;
classification
A. No person shall be employed or permitted to work in the laundry department in a
laundry establishment more than eight hours in any one day except when necessary to make
repairs to prevent interruption of the ordinary running of the machinery or when a
different apportionment of the hours of labor is made for the sole purpose of making a
shorter day's work for one day of the week, or unless it appears that the employment is
to make up for time lost on some previous day of the same week in consequence of a
stoppage of the machinery upon which the person is employed or dependent for employment,
and in no case shall the hours of labor exceed forty-eight hours in a week.
B. Every employer shall post in a conspicuous place in every room where persons are
employed a printed notice stating the number of hours work required of them on each day
of the week, and the employment of any person for a longer period in any day than that so
stated is a violation of this section.
C. Every laundry room shall be constructed to provide at least six hundred cubic
feet of air for each occupant and shall have not less than two windows arranged to admit
a cross-current of external air.
D. A person violating any provision of this section is guilty of a petty offense.
