36-103. Department organization; deputy
director; assistant directors


A. The director may establish, abolish or reorganize the positions or
organizational units within the department to carry out the functions provided by this
section and section 36-104, subject to legislative appropriation, if in his judgment such
modification of organization would make the operation of the department more efficient,
effective or economical. The director or his deputy shall enforce cooperation among the
divisions in the provision and integration of all functions.


B. There shall be a deputy director of the department who is appointed by the
director with the approval of the governor. The deputy director shall be exempt from the
state personnel system, shall serve at the pleasure of the director and shall receive
compensation as determined pursuant to section 38-611. The deputy director shall assist
the director in administering the department and its services.


C. The director may appoint an assistant director to each organizational unit that
he may establish. Each such assistant director shall be exempt from the state personnel
system, shall serve at the pleasure of the director and shall receive compensation as
determined pursuant to section 38-611.
