48-1575. Canvass of returns; postponement;
declaration of result


A. A list, tally paper or certificate returned from any election shall not be set
aside or rejected for want of form if it can be satisfactorily understood.


B. The board of directors shall meet at the district office on the first Monday
after the election and canvass the returns. If at the time of meeting the returns from
each division in the district in which the polls were open have been received, the board
of directors shall canvass the returns, or if all the returns have not been received, the
canvass shall be postponed from day to day until all returns have been received or until
six postponements have been made. The canvass shall be made in public by counting the
votes of the district for each person voted for and declaring the results thereof.


C. The board shall declare elected the person receiving the highest number of votes
cast for each office and shall declare the result of any questions or proposals
submitted.
