§ 9-925. Membership.
 

(a)  Composition; appointment of members.- The Veterans' Home Commission consists of the following 14 members: 

(1) 11 individuals appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate; and 

(2) as ex officio members: 

(i) the Governor; 

(ii) the President of the Senate; and 

(iii) the Speaker of the House of Delegates. 

(b)  Tenure; vacancies.-  

(1) The term of an appointed member is 5 years. 

(2) The terms of the appointed members are staggered as required by the terms provided for members of the Veterans' Home Commission on October 1, 1984. 

(3) At the end of a term, a member continues to serve until a successor is appointed and qualifies. 

(4) A member who is appointed after a term has begun serves only for the rest of the term and until a successor is appointed and qualifies. 

(c)  Representation.- As far as is practicable and is consistent with the purposes and goals of the Veterans' Home Commission, the Governor shall choose appointed members so as to have a broad distribution from among: 

(1) veterans and veterans' organizations; and 

(2) the geographical areas of the State.
