DISPOSITION OF FILES AND PAPERS RELATING TO PROSECUTIONS (EXCERPT)
Act 66 of 1949

780.224 Files and papers in civil action; destruction, docket entry.

Sec. 4.

All files and papers relating to civil actions commenced in any municipal court shall be retained for 7 years, except where the defendants at the time of commencement of the action as indicated by the files and papers were serving in the armed forces or were nonresidents of this state in which case the retention shall be for 10 years, from the date of the final judgment, order or dismissal of the cause with or without prejudice, and may then be destroyed to such extent as is ordered by the court. The docket shall be indorsed to indicate such action.
