Board to set penalties, limitation.

79.470. For all ordinance violations the board of aldermenmay impose penalties not exceeding a fine of five hundred dollarsand costs, or ninety days' imprisonment, or both the fine andimprisonment. Where the city and state have a penalty for thesame offense, the board shall set the same penalty by ordinanceas is set by statute, except that imprisonments, when made undercity ordinances, may be in the city prison or workhouse insteadof the county jail.
