60-462.02. Legislative intent; director; department;powers and duties.It is the intent of the Legislature thatthe department develop, implement, and maintain processes for the issuanceof operators' licenses and state identification cards designed to protectthe identity of applicants for and holders of such licenses and cards andreduce identity theft, fraud, forgery, and counterfeiting to the maximum extentpossible with respect to such licenses and cards. The director shall designatean implementation date for such processes which date is on or before August 1, 2009. The department shall adopt securityand technology practices to enhance the enrollment, production, data storage,and credentialing system of such licenses and cards in order to maximize theintegrity of the process.
