§ 86A‑17.  Renewal orrestoration of certificate.

(a)        Registered barberswho continue in practice shall annually, on or before May 31 of each year,renew their certificates of registration and furnish such health certificate asthe Board may require and pay the required renewal fee. Every certificate ofregistration shall expire on the 31st day of May in each year. Any certificateof registration issued under this Chapter is automatically suspended byoperation of law after failure to renew the certificate of registration by theexpiration date.

(b)        A registered barberwhose certificate of registration has expired may have the certificate restoredimmediately upon paying all lapsed renewal fees and the required late fee andfurnishing a health certificate if required by the Board. Where a registeredbarber's certificate of registration has expired for a period greater than sixmonths, the Board may impose civil penalties pursuant to G.S. 86A‑27. Aregistered barber whose certificate has expired for a period of five yearsshall be required to take the clinical examination prescribed by the StateBoard of Barber Examiners and otherwise comply with the provisions of thisChapter before engaging in the practice of barbering. No registered barber whois reissued a certificate under this subsection shall be required to serve anapprenticeship as a prerequisite to reissuance of the certificate.

(c)        All persons servingin the United States armed forces and persons whose certificates ofregistration as a registered barber were in force one year prior to enteringservice may, without taking the required examination, renew their certificateswithin 90 days after receiving an honorable discharge, by paying the currentannual license fee and furnishing the State Board of Barber Examiners with asatisfactory health certificate if required by the Board.
