CIVIL CODE
SECTION 3171



3171.  If the owner, construction lender or any original contractor
or subcontractor disputes the correctness or validity of any stop
notice or bonded stop notice, he may file with the person upon whom
such notice was served a bond executed by good and sufficient
sureties in a penal sum equal to 1 1/4 times the amount stated in
such notice, conditioned for the payment of any sum not exceeding the
penal obligation of the bond which the claimant may recover on the
claim, together with his costs of suit in the action, if he recovers
therein. Upon the filing of such bond, the funds withheld to respond
to the stop notice or bonded stop notice shall forthwith be released.
