CHAPTER 82. BOARDS OF ASSESSMENT

§ 8201. Board of Assessment for Kent County.

(a) There shall be a Board of Assessment for Kent County.

(b) The Board shall consist of 3 members to be appointed by the government of Kent County.

(c) The term of office of each member is 4 years commencing on the second Tuesday in January next after his appointment.

(d) All 3 members of the Board shall be appointed by the county government every 4 years in the year next after the year in which the Governor is elected.

(e) The members shall be qualified voters of Kent County, no 2 of whom shall be residents of the same senatorial district. All members shall be chosen from the 2 principal political parties, and not more than 2 shall be of the same political faith.

§ 8202. Vacancies.

If a vacancy occurs in the Board of Assessment for any reason other than expiration of term, the vacancy shall be filled by the government of the County for the unexpired term.

§ 8203. Salaries of members.

Each member of the Board of Assessment shall receive an annual salary to be paid by the county government in equal monthly installments. The salary in Kent County is $9,000.

§ 8204. Expenses of members.

The necessary expenses of the members of the Board of Assessment incurred in traveling through the County on official business shall be reported and verified monthly by the members and paid by the government of the County.

§ 8205. Disqualification for other offices.

No member of a board of assessment shall, during the time for which he is appointed, be an elected official of the county governing body, receiver of taxes and county treasurer, or collector of taxes, and no member of such Board for Kent County shall hold any other county or state office.

§ 8206. Oath of office.

Each member of a board of assessment, before entering upon his duties, shall appear before the county government to take the oath of office prescribed by the Constitution, which oath may be administered by the clerk of the peace, or by any member of the county government, and a minute thereof shall be entered upon the records of the county government.

§ 8207. Removal from office; notice; hearing; appeal.

Any member of a board of assessment may be removed by the county government for any failure to perform the duties of his office, or any other sufficient cause, after due notice and hearing. Any person so removed shall have the right to appeal from the judgment or decision to the Superior Court, which shall, in a summary proceeding, either affirm or reverse the decision of the county government. If such judgment or decision be reversed the person appealing shall be remitted to his office and shall be entitled to all arrears of compensation.

§ 8208. Employees.

Each board of assessment may employ the necessary help at compensations to be fixed by the county government. The duties of employees shall be prescribed by the board of assessment which employs them.

§ 8209. Location of regular offices of boards; temporary offices.

§ 8210. Books from which to ascertain ownership and description of real estate.

Each board of assessment shall procure and keep such books and records as it deems necessary so that the ownership and description of any particular piece of real estate in the county can be readily ascertained.
