§11-192.5 - Commissioners; political activities.
[§11-192.5] Commissioners; politicalactivities. (a) A member of the commission or its staff shall notparticipate in any political campaign during the member's or employee's term ofoffice or employment including making a financial contribution to a candidateor political committee.
(b) Each commissioner shall retain the rightto:
(1) Register and vote as the commissioner chooses inany election;
(2) Participate in the nonpolitical activities of acivic, community, social, labor, or professional organization, or of a similarorganization;
(3) Be a member of a political party or othernoncandidate political organization and participate in its activities to theextent consistent with law; and
(4) Otherwise participate fully in public affairs,except as prohibited by law, in a manner which does not materially compromisethe commissioner's efficiency or integrity as a commissioner or the neutrality,efficiency, or integrity of the commission.
(c) A commissioner may request an advisoryopinion from the state ethics commission to determine whether a particularactivity constitutes or would constitute a violation of the code of ethics orthis section. [L Sp 1995, c 10, pt of §2(1)]
