ยง24-4ย  Allowance for expenses while onofficial legislative business during period of recess and interim officiallegislative business.ย  When a session of the legislature is recessed formore than three days pursuant to a concurrent resolution or for any interimofficial legislative business, a member of the legislature while on officiallegislative business on the island of the member's legal residence and whenauthorized by the presiding officer of the respective house, shall receive anallowance of $10 a day to cover personal expenses.

When a session of the legislature is recessedfor more than three days pursuant to the mandatory recess required by articleIII, section 10, of the Constitution or a concurrent resolution or for anyinterim official legislative business, a member of the legislature who isrequired to remain away from the island of the member's legal residence butwithin the State overnight or longer while on official legislative business andwhen authorized by the presiding officer of the respective house, shall receivean allowance to cover all personal expenses such as board, lodging, andincidental expenses but not travel expenses.ย  The allowance under this sectionshall be set at a single rate that will:

(1)ย  Not exceed the greater of the maximum allowancefor such expenses payable to any public officer or employee of the federalgovernment or the State;

(2)ย  Be reasonably calculated to cover the expensesspecified in this section; and
