ยง26-11ย University of Hawaii.ย (a)ย TheUniversity of Hawaii shall be headed by an executive board to be known as theboard of regents.
The board shall consist of fifteen members.ย Atleast one member shall be a University of Hawaii student at the time of theinitial appointment.ย This member may be reappointed for one additional termeven though the member may no longer be a student at the time ofreappointment.ย The governor shall reduce the terms of those initiallyappointed to each seat on the board of regents to provide, as far aspracticable, for the expiration of three terms each year; provided that theterm of the student member shall not be reduced.
At least twelve members, except for the studentmember, shall represent and reside in the specified geographic areas asfollows:
(1)ย Two members from the county of Hawaii;
(2)ย Two members from the county of Maui;
(3)ย One member from the county of Kauai; and
(4)ย Seven members from the city and county ofHonolulu.
The board shall have the power, in accordancewith the Hawaii constitution and with law, to formulate policy and to exercisecontrol over the university through its executive officer, the president of theuniversity.ย The board shall have exclusive jurisdiction over the internalorganization and management of the university.
(b)ย The board of regents shall appoint and mayremove an executive officer to be known as the president of the University ofHawaii.
The University of Hawaii as heretoforeconstituted as a body corporate is continued as the University of Hawaiiestablished by this chapter.
