ยง28-11ย Investigators; appointment andpowers.ย (a)ย The attorney general shall appoint and commission one or moreinvestigators as the exigencies of the public service may require.ย Personsappointed and commissioned under this section shall have and may exercise allof the powers and authority and the benefits and privileges of a police officeror of a deputy sheriff.ย These investigators shall consist of personnel whoseprimary duty will be to conduct investigations as directed by the attorneygeneral.
(b)ย The attorney general may also appoint personswhose primary function shall be to provide security coverage for the governorand other public officials of this State, to be known as securityinvestigators, who shall have and may exercise all the powers and authority ofthe investigators appointed under subsection (a).ย When not providing securitycoverage for the governor or other public officials, the security investigatorsshall conduct other investigations as directed by the attorney general.ย The positionsof security investigators may be exempt from chapter 76.
