§121-36  Responsibility for property. Every officer commanding a unit shall be charged with and be responsible forthe arms, accouterments, ammunition, clothing, or other military property orstores issued to or belonging to the officer's command, and shall beaccountable to the State for the same in case of their being lost or damagedotherwise than by unavoidable accident, or in actual service.  All officers andmembers of the militia having arms or other property of the State in theirpossession shall be accountable to the State in a like manner.
