§226-16 Objective and policies for facilitysystems--water. (a) Planning for the State's facility systems with regardto water shall be directed towards achievement of the objective of theprovision of water to adequately accommodate domestic, agricultural,commercial, industrial, recreational, and other needs within resourcecapacities.
(b) To achieve the facility systems waterobjective, it shall be the policy of this State to:
(1) Coordinate development of land use activitieswith existing and potential water supply.
(2) Support research and development of alternativemethods to meet future water requirements well in advance of anticipated needs.
(3) Reclaim and encourage the productive use ofrunoff water and wastewater discharges.
(4) Assist in improving the quality, efficiency,service, and storage capabilities of water systems for domestic andagricultural use.
(5) Support water supply services to areasexperiencing critical water problems.
(6) Promote water conservation programs and practicesin government, private industry, and the general public to help ensure adequatewater to meet long-term needs. [L 1978, c 100, pt of §2; am L 1986, c 276, §15]
