§304A-1753  Contract necessary for fillingof positions.  In order to fill a position under this subpart, a personshall enter into a contract with the school of medicine of the University ofHawaii stating that the person:

(1)  Agrees to participate in the residency programfor the minimum period required to qualify for the licensure examination underchapter 453;

(2)  Agrees to obtain a permanent license to practicemedicine and surgery or osteopathy under chapter 453 as soon as possiblefollowing termination of participation in the residency program;

(3)  Agrees to serve for two years as:

(A)  An officer or employee of the departmentof public safety who is based in a correctional facility and whose normalcourse of duty requires medical treatment of inmates of the facility, anothercorrectional facility, or both; or

(B)  An officer or employee of the departmentof health who is employed to provide primary medical care to residents of andto be based in a rural community with a shortage of physicians; and

(4)  Agrees to commence fulfilling the requirementunder paragraph (3) immediately following the termination of participation inthe residency program and licensure. [L 2006, c 75, pt of §2; am L 2009, c 11,§30]
