[§340E-24]  Notification of contamination ofunderground sources of drinking water and other sources of public drinkingwater.  (a)  Suppliers of water shall notify the department by writtencommunication of any previously undetected chemical contamination of anyunderground sources of drinking water or other sources of public drinking watersupply within seven days of detecting the presence of a contaminant.  Thewritten communication shall contain information known to the supplier on thelevel of detection, location (including depth of the source), date, wellconstruction, and analytical method used, including information on theprecision, accuracy, and limit of detection of the method and any qualityassurance and control procedures.

(b)  The director shall notify the publicthrough the media, and the affected water supplier by written communication, ofthe presence of any previously undetected chemical contaminant in undergroundsources of drinking water or in any public water supply within fourteen days ofthe development of reliable analytical data by the department of healthlaboratory or receipt of reliable analytical data indicating to the directorthat the contaminant has been detected by another laboratory.
