    Chapter 2. Indiana-Michigan Boundary Line Commission

"Boundary county"
    
Sec. 1. As used in this chapter, "boundary county" refers to any ofthe following:
        (1) Elkhart County.
        (2) LaGrange County.
        (3) LaPorte County.
        (4) St. Joseph County.
        (5) Steuben County.

Sec. 2. As used in this chapter, "commission" refers to theIndiana-Michigan boundary line commission established by section3 of this chapter.

Sec. 3. The Indiana-Michigan boundary line commission isestablished.

Commission members
    
Sec. 4. (a) The commission consists of five (5) membersappointed by the governor.
    (b) Each commission member must be a surveyor registered underIC 25-21.5.
    (c) One (1) member of the commission must be appointed fromeach of the boundary counties.
    (d) The commission's chair must be:
        (1) a commission member; and
        (2) elected by a majority of the commission members.

Commission member compensation
    
Sec. 5. (a) A commission member is not entitled to compensationfor service on the commission.
    (b) A commission member is entitled to reimbursement forexpenses actually incurred in connection with the member's duties asprovided in the state policies and procedures established by theIndiana department of administration and approved by the budgetagency.

Sec. 6. The commission shall meet at least four (4) times eachyear.

Commission duties; professional survey services; commissionreview; ratification
    
Sec. 7. (a) The commission shall administer and oversee a surveyand remonumentation of the Indiana-Michigan border.
    (b) The survey required by this section shall install relativelypermanent monumentation at the mile post positions as establishedby the original government survey of October 1827. However, thecommission may not replace lost mile post positions if the state ofMichigan does not participate in the project as authorized byMichigan law.
    (c) The commission may procure professional surveying servicesthrough the Indiana department of administration. A contract forsurveying services must be awarded to a company incorporated inIndiana.
    (d) The commission shall review the survey upon completion ofeach mile post.
    (e) Upon completion of the survey, the commission shall submitthe survey to the general assembly for ratification.
