IC 20-24-1-1 Applicability
Sec. 1. The definitions in this chapter apply throughout this
article. As added by P.L.1-2005, SEC.8.
IC 20-24-1-2 "ADM of the previous year"
Sec. 2. "ADM of the previous year" has the meaning set forth in
IC 20-43-1-7. As added by P.L.1-2005, SEC.8. Amended by P.L.2-2006, SEC.103.
IC 20-24-1-3 "Charter"
Sec. 3. "Charter" means a contract between an organizer and a
sponsor for the establishment of a charter school. As added by P.L.1-2005, SEC.8.
IC 20-24-1-4 "Charter school"
Sec. 4. "Charter school" means a public elementary school or
secondary school established under this article that:
(1) is nonsectarian and nonreligious; and
(2) operates under a charter. As added by P.L.1-2005, SEC.8.
IC 20-24-1-5 "Conversion charter school"
Sec. 5. "Conversion charter school" means a charter school
established under IC 20-24-11 by the conversion of an existing
school into a charter school. The term includes a new school to
which students from other schools in the school corporation are

IC 20-24-1-6 "Current ADM"
Sec. 6. "Current ADM" has the meaning set forth in
IC 20-43-1-10. As added by P.L.1-2005, SEC.8. Amended by P.L.2-2006, SEC.104.
IC 20-24-1-7 "Organizer"
Sec. 7. "Organizer" means a group or an entity that:
(1) has been determined by the Internal Revenue Service to be
operating under nonprofit status or has applied for such
determination; and
(2) enters into a contract under this article to operate a charter

IC 20-24-1-8 "Proposal"
Sec. 8. "Proposal" refers to a proposal from an organizer to
establish a charter school. As added by P.L.1-2005, SEC.8.
IC 20-24-1-9 "Sponsor"
Sec. 9. "Sponsor" means, for a charter school, one (1) of the
following:
(1) A governing body.
(2) A state educational institution that offers a four (4) year
baccalaureate degree.
(3) The executive (as defined in IC 36-1-2-5) of a consolidated
