Chapter 21.--CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS PART II.--PROHIBITED CONDUCT Article 44.--CRIMES AFFECTING BUSINESS

21-4402. Debt adjusting.(a) Debt adjusting is engaging in the business of making contracts,express or implied, with a debtor whereby the debtor agrees to pay acertain amount of money periodically to the person engaging in the debtadjusting business who shall for a consideration distribute the same amongcertain specified creditors.

(b) The provisions of this act shall not apply to thosesituationsinvolving debt adjusting, as defined here, which is incidental to thelawful practice of law in this state or to any person registered as a creditservices organization under theKansas credit services organization act.

(c) Debt adjusting is a class B nonpersonmisdemeanor.
