Chapter 31.--FIRE PROTECTION
Article 1.--FIRE SAFETY AND PREVENTION

      31-158.   Fire safety and prevention; sale to or purchase by firedepartment of clothing or equipment which does not meet standards set bynational fire protectionassociation; penalty; definition.(a) No person shall knowingly sellor offer for sale in this state toany fire departmentany item of clothing or equipment intended to protectfirefighters from death or injury while fighting fires unless the item ofclothing or equipment meets or exceedsthe minimum standards established for such item ofclothing or equipment by the national fire protection association, ineffect on the effective date of this act.

      (b)   No fire department shall purchase in this stateany item of clothing or equipment intended to protect firefighters fromdeath or injury while fighting fires unless the item of clothing orequipment meets or exceeds the minimum standards established for such itemof clothing or equipment by the national fire protection association, ineffect on the effective date of this act.

      (c)   A violation of subsection (a) is a class B misdemeanor.

      (d)   As used in this section, "fire department" means any city, county,township or other public or private fire department.
