Chapter 48.--MILITIA, DEFENSE AND PUBLIC SAFETY
Article 16.--NUCLEAR ENERGY DEVELOPMENT AND RADIATION CONTROL

      48-1602.   Purposes.It is the purpose of this act to effectuate the policies set forth inK.S.A. 48-1601 by providing for:

      (a)   A program of effective regulation of sources of radiation for theprotection of the public health and safety;

      (b)   a program to promote an orderly regulatory pattern within the state,among the states and between the federal government and the state andfacilitate intergovernmental cooperation with respect to use andregulation of sources of radiation to the end that duplication ofregulation may be minimized;

      (c)   a program to establish procedures for assumption and performance ofcertain regulatory responsibilities with respect to by-product, source andspecial nuclear materials; radiation producing devices and electronicproducts; and

      (d)   a program to permit maximum utilization of sources of radiationconsistent with the health and safety of the public.
