Chapter 48.--MILITIA, DEFENSE AND PUBLIC SAFETY
Article 5.--STATE GUARD

      48-501.   Authority and name.Whenever any part of the national guard of this state is in activefederal service, the governor is hereby authorized to organize and maintainwithin this state during such period, under such regulations as thesecretary of defense of the United States may prescribe for discipline intraining, such military forces as the governor may deem necessary to defendthis state. Such forces shall be composed of officers commissioned orassigned, and such able-bodied citizens of the state as shall volunteer forservice therein, supplemented, if necessary, by members of the unorganizedmilitia enrolled by draft or otherwise as provided by law. Such forcesshall be additional to and distinct from the national guard and shall beknown as the Kansas state guard. Such forces shall be uniformed.
