Chapter 66.--PUBLIC UTILITIES
Article 13.--MOTOR CARRIERS

      66-1318.   Motor carrier inspection stations; control bysuperintendent of the highway patrol; locations authorized; law enforcement purposes.(a) The superintendent of the Kansas highwaypatrol shall determine such number of permanentmotor carrier inspection stations throughout the state as thesuperintendentdeems necessary to enforce the laws of this state relating to: The size,weight and load of motor vehicles and trailers; registration andinsurance laws and requirements of the Kansas corporation commission;motor fuel use tax laws, liquid fuel carriers tax laws and motor vehicleregistration laws applicable to vehicles; and livestock inspection laws.The operation of all such motor carrier inspection stations shall beunder the authority and control of thesuperintendent of the Kansas highway patrol. Thesecretary of transportation shall have the authority to acquire, bypurchase or condemnation, additional land for motor carrier inspectionstations and to construct such inspection stations as deemed necessaryby the superintendent as herein provided,within limitations onappropriations therefor.

      (b)   The operation of the facilities of all motor carrier inspectionstations in existenceon July 1, 1988, whether ornot in operation on such date, shall be under the authority and controlof the superintendent of the Kansas highwaypatrol and, after July 1, 1988, thesuperintendentmay close certainmotor carrier inspection stations in conjunction with and for thepurposes of consolidation ofall the functions of all of the closed stations at single locations for the combinedperformance of all such functions at such locations.
