Article 14.--COMMUNITY COLLEGE ELECTIONS

      71-1414.   Candidacy for election to board of trustees; petition ordeclaration of intent; filing fee; deadline.(a) (1) In college districts where a district method of electionis in effect, a personmay become a candidate for election to trustee of a community college byany one of the following methods:

      (A)   Any person who is an elector of any member district may petitionto be a candidate for member from the member district in which suchperson resides. Any such person shall file with the election officer apetition for such person's candidacy signed by not less than 50electors residing in such person's member district.

      (B)   Any person who is an elector of any memberdistrict may become acandidate for member from the member district in which such personresides by filing with the election officer a declaration of intent tobe such a candidate, and payment therewith of a filing fee in the amountof $5.

      (C)   If a community college adopts and implements a seven member boardof trustees plan, any person who is an elector of the college district may petitionto be a candidate for the at-large memberposition. Any such person shall file with the countyelection officer a petition for such candidacy signed by not less than 50electors residing in such college district.

      (D)   If a community college adopts and implements a seven member boardof trustees plan, any person who is an elector of the college district may become acandidate for the at-large memberposition by filing with the county election officer a declaration ofintent to be such a candidate, and payment therewith of a filing fee in theamount of $5.

      (2)   Every petition or declaration of intent filed under thissubsection must specify the member position for which the person is a candidate.

      (b)   In college districts where the election-at-large methodof election is in effect, a person may become a candidate for election totrustee of a community college by either one of the following methods:

      (1)   Any person who is an elector of the college district maypetition to be a candidate for trustee. Any such person shall file withthe election officer a petition for such person'scandidacy signed by notless than 50 electors residing in the college district.

      (2)   Any person who is an elector of the college district may becomea candidate for trustee by filing with the election officer adeclaration of intent to be such a candidate, and payment therewith of afiling fee in the amount of $5.

      (c)   Every petition or declaration of intent filedunder this section must be filed on orbefore 12 o'clock noon on the Tuesday which precedes by 10 weeksthe first Tuesday in April of any odd-numbered year. No such petition ordeclaration shall be filed sooner than the second Tuesday of theDecember which next precedes the community college election.
