Chapter 72.--SCHOOLS
Article 81.--UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT PROVISIONS OF LIMITED APPLICATION

      72-8123.   Same; board of education, election of members.The board of education of any unified school district established underthe provisions of this act shall have seven (7) members as hereinprovided. Subject to K.S.A. 72-8128, two membersof the board of education shall be nominated and elected by the electorsin all of the territory of the unified school district, and one memberof the board of education shall be nominated and elected by the electorsin each of the five member districts of the unified school district. Themembers of the board of education shall each have a position number suchthat the board member from each member district shall have the samenumber that his member district bears. Subject to said K.S.A. 72-8128,each member district shall be given one of the numbers one, two, three,four or five and board member positions of members elected in the entireunified school district shall be given position number six (6) and seven(7).

      Candidates for member of the board of education shall be qualifiedelectors and reside in the member district bearing the same number asthe member position for which the candidate files, except thatcandidates for position numbers six (6) and seven (7), or theposition-at-large only if said K.S.A. 72-8128 becomes operative, shallreside at any place in the unified school district. Upon the death orresignation of a board member, or upon the removal of his residence froma member district, a vacancy shall occur in the board member position ofsuch board member.
