Chapter 72.--SCHOOLS
Article 89.--SUSPENSION AND EXPULSION OF PUPILS

      72-8908.   Definitions.As used in this act:

      (a)   "Juvenile" means a person who is less than 18 years of age;

      (b)   "adult" means a person who is 18 years of age or older;

      (c)   "felony" means any crime designated a felony by the laws of Kansas orthe United States;

      (d)   "misdemeanor" means any crime designated a misdemeanor by the laws ofKansas or the United States;

      (e)   "school day" means any day on which school is maintained;

      (f)   "school year" has the meaning ascribed thereto in K.S.A. 72-6408, andamendments thereto;

      (g)   "counsel" means any person a pupil selects to represent and advise thepupil at all proceedings conducted pursuant to the provisions of this act; and

      (h)   "principal witness" means any witness whose testimony is of majorimportance in support of the charges upon which a proposed suspension orexpulsion from school is based, or in determination ofmaterial questions of fact.
